Somerset County Facial FillersWrinkles, frown lines, and depressions of the face can leave a person looking old and tired. In order to improve the appearance of the inevitable effects of time, individuals in the Somerset County area have the option of receiving facial fillers or injectables. As we all know the face changes over time. Many of these changes are related to loss of facial volume, some of which include flattening of the mid face, lower face, and lips. If you are thirty or over, you can see these changes if you look in the mirror and compare your appearance to a photo taken when you were around twenty. These changes occur gradually; therefore, they are usually not noticeable unless you actively compare your appearance to a prior photo. Other factors can also contribute to these changes, including changes in the appearance of your skin. Skin changes and the treatment options for these are addressed in the treatment of facial wrinkles section of this website. Of note, diet, exercise, avoiding excess sun exposure and tobacco products can also be beneficial in reducing changes in your appearance associated with the passage of time. We are happy to discuss this as well with any interested patients who come to our office. Union County facial fillers professional, plastic surgeon Paul J. Carniol, M.D., F.A.C.S. can administer fillers or facial fat grafts to restore volume and a more youthful appearance to your facial features. Using the latest technology in cosmetic surgery, facial plastic surgery, and aesthetic rejuvenation, Dr. Carniol can discuss your options for achieving your goals. Many of these procedures can be performed in the office and may not require any incisions. If you are interested in treatments for wrinkle reduction, you may also be a good candidate for facial fillers. He has multiple lasers in his office that can be used to improve the appearance of your skin. Facial RejuvenationA plastic surgery, cosmetic dermatology, and "anti aging" professional, Dr. Carniol offers a wide range of facial filler options. Some of these may include: Restylane ®, Perlane ®, Juvederm ®, Prevelle ®, and Radiesse ®. Alternatively, the patient's own fat can be used for fat grafting procedures. These dermal fillers are intended to target facial volume loss, facial wrinkles, and lip volume loss and lip wrinkles. Some patients who just want fuller lips can request fillers for lip enhancement. Patients frequently ask how long the facial filler will last. This can vary depending on the "biological make up of your body" since each person is different, along with the type of facial filler being used and the location in which it is used. In general, a facial filler can last between four months to a year, depending on the type of treatment. In this physician's experience, hyaluronic acid gel fillers, such as Restylane ®, Perlane ®, and Juvederm Ultra T, frequently last longer in the lips than in the midface. Fillers can be used to lift facial folds such as the nasolabial folds and the "marionette lines." For many patients, the appearance of "higher cheekbones" can be achieved with fillers, which have replaced cheek implants for most patients. They can also elevate depressions of the face as well as some depressed facial scars. (Of note, although numerous filler treatments have been performed by physicians worldwide, many of these uses, particularly depending on the location treated, are considered "FDA off label." Currently, Dr. Carniol does not use RadiesseT in the lips or close to the eyes.) Fat grafting, which involves the removal of fat from one area of the body by gentle liposuction ("lipoplasty") and transferring it to another region can also be used to achieve a fuller face, increase facial volume. To improve the appearance of lines between the brows, forehead wrinkles, and crow's feet (fine lines around the eye), Dr. Carniol can administer Botox ® or Dysport ®. Facial lines and folds, which are due to repetitive muscle motion, frequently can be treated with Botox ® or Dysport ®. Results usually last up to four months; some patients have reported an improvement for six months or longer. Plastic surgeon Dr. Paul Carniol has treated patients from Essex County, as well as the other counties in New Jersey, with Botox ® or Dysport ®.
