Somerset County Basal Cell CarcinomaThe three most common types of skin cancer are basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and malignant melanoma. These skin lesions can have many types of presentations, including pink spots, lighter spots, bumps, depressions, tan or pigmented spots, rough spots, areas or skin lesions that bleed or have dried blood on them, as well as spots, depressions or skin lesions that change in appearance. Considering the wide variety of presentations, it is important that you examine your skin each month and see a physician if you note any changes. We advise our patients that rather than try to decide themselves whether they have a skin cancer, it is better if they note any changes to have the skin examiner look at them. If you have any symptoms of skin cancer or recently had skin cancer, Paul J. Carniol, M.D., F.A.C.S. of the Somerset County and Union County is a basal cell carcinoma specialist who can see and evaluate you further. He has diagnosed numerous skin cancers over the years that he has been in practice. Many times, using magnification during a skin exam, he can determine if a lesion appears suspicious for any of the skin cancer types. If a lesion appears suspicious, such as that it may develop into a skin cancer, he may recommend topical skin treatment or a biopsy. Over the years, he has treated numerous people from Hunterdon County, Essex County, Somerset County, Union County, and other counties in New Jersey who had/have basal cell carcinoma and other types of skin cancer, including squamous cell carcinoma and malignant melanoma. As a plastic surgeon, Dr. Carniol has evaluated and treated hundreds of people with skin cancer. Treatment of Basal Cell Carcinoma and Other CancersIn general basal cell carcinoma (cancer) can present with a variety of appearances and symptoms. When trying to identify this type of cancer it is important to keep in mind the wide variety of presentations. Even a nonhealing facial wound can have a basal cell carcinoma. Years ago, Dr .Carniol saw a lady with a nonhealing facial wound after an automobile accident who was interested in having a procedure to improve her facial scars (scar revision). Since the wound had not completely healed in months, Dr. Carniol performed a biopsy of the wound and found a basal cell carcinoma in the wound. Dr Carniol removed the basal cell carcinoma at the same time that he preformed the scar revision. The auto accident did not cause the basal cell carcinoma; it just happened to be in the facial area injured in the accident. Of the three most common types of skin cancer: basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinomas, and malignant melanoma, basal cell carcinomas are the slowest growing skin cancers. It is important that everyone checks their skin monthly as skin cancers frequently present with either a new skin lesion or a changing skin lesion. If you see any skin cancer signs by keeping track of changing or symptomatic skin lesions, it is important to have them evaluated by a physician. Dr. Carniol has evaluated numerous patients for skin cancer diseases. Skin cancers that require removal can be performed as an outpatient; general anesthesia is typically not needed when removing these skin cancers - the area to be treated is numbed so you do not feel any pain during the surgery. After the skin cancer is removed, reconstruction of the area is then performed. On this web site there are skin cancer photos featuring some of our patients. He has been treating skin lesions for many years and uses the latest techniques for treating skin cancer of the face and body. Treating patients from Hunterdon County, Union County, Essex County, Somerset County, and the other counties Dr. Carniol always discusses your treatment options for your problem so you can decide which treatment is for you, whether you had/have basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, or malignant melanoma.
