Liquid Facelift

Signs of facial aging are inevitable, which is why so many individuals seek ways to help them maintain a youthful appearance. Some of the most common undesired signs of aging include fine lines, wrinkles, creases, and hollowed/sunken areas. Although some men and women may opt to undergo a plastic surgery procedure, such as a face lift or eyelid surgery, there are those who prefer a less invasive solution. In these circumstances, a "Liquid Facelift" may be suitable. Dr. Carniol offers this type of treatment at his New Jersey practice.

What is the Liquid Facelift?

As time passes, the facial structure begins to lose its volume and youthful appearance. This frequently affects the mid and lower face. These can flatten, losing its youthful roundness. The lips can also flatten and lose their youthful fullness and the associated natural rounding of the lip margin. Furthermore, in association with this, some people develop looseness of their cheeks and/or neck. In a liquid facelift procedure, fillers and/or fat grafts are used to replace this lost volume.

During the initial consultation with Dr. Carniol, your facial anatomy is thoroughly examined in order to determine the best treatment plan. Frequently, the use of facial fillers and injectables can help patients regain a more youthful contour.

Fine lines and wrinkles in the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes can be treated with Botox® or Dysport® injections, which block the nerve impulses that cause underlying muscles to move and create wrinkles in these areas. The majority of patients will have smoother skin tone and less wrinkles following Botox injections in these areas.

Deep creases, wrinkles around the mouth, and hollowed cheeks may be corrected with, Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvederm™, or Prevelle®. Made of hyaluronic acid, these facial fillers can be used to fill in creases and gaunt areas of the face. In the midface and/or lower face, Radiesse®, which is a non-hyaluronic acid filler, can also be used to provide volume.

These fillers provide patients with added volume and smoother skin similar to what they had in their younger years. In addition, as the lips begin to thin, many patients inquire about lip enhancement; certain facial fillers may also be used to restore volume to the lips.

An added benefit of undergoing this type of facial surgery is that patients may return to their normal, daily activities immediately after the procedure. Fillers such as Restylane®, Perlane®, Radiesse®, Juvederm™, or Prevelle® provide immediate results. Many patients are happy with the "instant gratification" results. After Botox® or Dysport® injections, results are gradually visible. This develops over five to 10 days. Frequently, they improve more and more as the days go by. Usually, results may last from a few months to a year, at which point you may wish to undergo additional touch-up treatment. It is possible to have bruising, and/or swelling after these procedures.
